On August 8, 2024, Relentless Academy proudly announced the launch of two scholarships dedicated to supporting its graduates as they advance their educational journeys.

The Dianne Richards STEM Scholarship
This scholarship is designed to assist Relentless Academy high school graduates who are pursuing STEM majors, including health-related fields, at accredited two- or four-year colleges. It aims to encourage and empower students as they step into critical and innovative areas of study that shape our future.

The Dr. Harry Oden Education Scholarship
Created to support graduates who choose non-STEM majors, including vocational trades, this scholarship is available for students enrolling in accredited vocational programs, as well as two- or four-year colleges. The scholarship reflects a commitment to nurturing diverse career paths that contribute to well-rounded community growth and success.

Eligibility Criteria:

Must be a graduate of Relentless Academy's summer program and/or internship program

Academic Requirements

Must be a high school graduate

Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

STEM Major
-
Must have declared and be accepted into a major in the fields of Science (includes health related fields), Technology, Engineering, and mathematics.

Non-STEM Major​

Must have declared and be accepted into a major in a field outside of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).​

Community Involvement

Demonstrated involvement in community service or extracurricular activities.

Submit a 250-word essay on the importance of education in your field of study, how this scholarship will help your future career goals, and how you plan to give back to your community after you achieve your educational goals.

Scholarship Amount: up to $5,000
Dianne Richards is a distinguished software engineer who retired from IBM after a remarkable career. Her professional journey also includes roles as an instructor at St. Olaf College and a teacher at Lake Shore High School. Dianne's studied Computer Science at Penn State and Physical Education at the University of Colorado Boulder and the State University College at Cortland. Known for her unwavering commitment to mentoring future engineers and students, Dianne has made significant contributions to both her local and distant communities. Her dedication to education is exemplified by her involvement with Relentless Academy. Despite the 1.5-hour drive each way from Rochester to Brooklyn Center, she has consistently traveled monthly during the school year and daily in the summer months to teach robotics to students. Her efforts have been instrumental in building and expanding the academy's robotics program, and for this, we are eternally grateful.

Scholarship Amount: up to $5,000
Dr. Harry Oden, native of Alabama, grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from UMD with a bachelor of science in Education (1963). After graduation, he became an educator in the Milwaukee Public Schools and served in many different positions from teacher to principal for 35 years. He is described as a leader and mentor who has influenced the nation, he has helped thousands of students and young people. He was responsible for developing the first Black History Program in the state at Milwaukee Public Schools in 1967. And, in the1980's he helped establish one of the first programs to address gang related problems. In 1997, he was inducted into the UMD Athletic Hall of Fame for his basketball and track accomplishments. Now retired, he continues to serve as an educational consultant for various school districts and as a motivational speaker for organizations such as the YMCA and the Boys' and Girls' Club.
